Where we are
Once South
Gloucestershire constituency, now Thornbury & Yate constituency, and
its new neighbour Filton and Bradley Stoke, are among the latest
(2006) creations of the Parliamentary Boundary Commission. As more
people have moved into the area, it has correspondingly grown
smaller. It now forms the northern part of South Gloucestershire,
which itself forms the northern part of the old Avon county, and
which was created as a unitary authority when the county was
re-organised in 1996. Its industry has changed from the manufacture
of airplanes and armaments to services, electronics and finance.

Thornbury Plain
Yate Green
The constituency
will officially no longer be called “Northavon” from the next
general election, but “Thornbury and Yate”. The problem with this is
that many people in the villages around do not identify with either
of these towns, and may feel that Thornbury and Yate [Parliamentary]
Constituency has nothing to do with them. It is important, then, to
realise that Thornbury & Yate include the following communities:
Marshfield,
Pucklechurch, Wick, Doynton; Frampton Cotterell, Iron Acton,
Westerleigh, Coalpit Heath; Thornbury, Tockington, Tytherington,
Alveston, Olveston, Elberton, Rockhampton, Moreton and Lower Morton,
Duckhole, Oldbury, Falfield; Yate, Sodbury, Old Sodbury, Chipping
Sodbury, Tormarton, Hawksbury Upton, Charfield, Hillesley, Cromhall,
Dyrham…
